Did you know that our valley’s population is expected to reach more than 3 million residents by 2050? One of the RTC’s fundamental roles is planning for that growth, and the Southern Nevada Strong Regional Plan is just one tool in our planning belt.

Learn how this plan may impact you, and stay tuned for opportunities to get involved.

What is Southern Nevada Strong?

The Southern Nevada Strong Regional Plan is a blueprint for:

  • Improving economic competitiveness
  • Improving education
  • Investing in complete communities
  • Increasing transportation options

The plan provides a vision for future growth with a focus on reinvesting in existing neighborhoods and building new communities that are inclusive, with convenient access to  jobs, housing and transit.

How did Southern Nevada Strong come to be?

On behalf of the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition, the City of Henderson administered a $3.5 million planning grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 2011. Through extensive outreach, Southern Nevada Strong brought the community together to envision a brighter future and develop the Regional Plan.

In 2015, Southern Nevada Strong transitioned to the RTC for ongoing administration of the plan. The RTC's Metropolitan Planning Organization is working with local governments, public agencies, elected officials, business leaders, community groups, nonprofit organizations, and community members to support plan implementation.

Why is Southern Nevada Strong important?

By 2050, over 700,000 additional people will call Southern Nevada home, growing our region’s population from 2.3 million to over 3 million. Without regional planning, uncoordinated growth can result in impacts such as more traffic, higher rents, more heat, and unsustainable water use. Local and regional governments, along with community-based organizations, can influence economic diversity, development, and investment to ultimately create improved quality of life and increase opportunity for all. We need unprecedented regional coordination, community engagement, and a clear plan to make Southern Nevada stronger.
