Reduced Fare
The RTC offers reduced fares for Active Duty Military, Veterans, youth (6-17), students (K-12), senior citizens (60 and over), persons with disabilities, Medicare eligible persons, Mobility Trained customers and customers with a valid reduced fare eligibility card from another transit system.
Tap Card Process
Effective, September 15th with the service change, we are now accepting all veterans and active-duty military personnel.
Customers who do not use the rideRTC mobile app, must tap their RTC-issued Reduced Fare ID, Veterans ID or Mobility trained ID card on the electronic validator located inside the bus near the farebox area.
Reduced Fare ID
In order to purchase reduced fare from a ticket vending machine, you must obtain a Reduced Fare, Mobility Trained or Veterans identification card from RTC. To purchase reduced fare on the rideRTC mobile app, you may apply online to have the reduced fare benefit added to your mobile app account.
Buying Reduced Fare Passes with the rideRTC app
The rideRTC app makes it easy to buy your passes from your phone.
- Download the app and set up an account
- Click on the “Profile” button under the “Utilities” menu in the upper right-hand corner
- Next, click on the “My Discounts” button
- Enter a Reduced Pass ID number, which can be found on your Reduced Fare ID card.
If you do not have a Reduced Fare ID card, you will need to apply for one. See details below.
Reduced fares are also available for purchase with the Transit or Uber app.
There are three steps customers with Reduced Fare I.D., Veterans I.D. and Mobility Trained I.D. will need to follow when boarding.
- First, show the transit operator the RTC-issued I.D. card to prove eligibility for the reduced fare rate.
- Second, swipe the pass to pay fare or insert money in to the farebox. (Paratransit customers would skip this step.)
- Third, tap your RTC-issued I.D. card on the electronic validator
For customers that have their I.D. card linked to their account on the rideRTC app, bypass the step of showing the transit operator the I.D. Instead, just scan your phone on the validator to pay the fare. If you have additional questions about the process, call our Customer Service team at 702-228-7433 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week.
