Green Pioneers: Empowering the future with young environmental activists

This Black History Month, let's celebrate the past AND empower the future. While honoring the giants like Dr. Robert Bullard, the “father of environmental justice,” who fought for fair treatment for all, a new generation of young Black activists is rising. They're not just inheriting the baton, they're sprinting with it.

Meet the Green Pioneers:

  • Isra Hirsi: This daughter of a Congresswoman isn't just following in powerful footsteps, she's leading the charge in youth-led climate activism. As co-founder of the U.S. Youth Climate Strike, she's demanding action for a livable planet.
  • Marley Dias: Remember #1000BlackGirlBooks? That was Marley's brainchild! Now, she's using her powerful voice to speak up about the environmental struggles of marginalized communities. Climate justice ain't just a slogan, it's her mission.
  • Charles Orgbon III: This young leader founded Greening Forward, a youth-driven organization empowering others to take action. He's proving that age ain't nothin' but a number when it comes to making a difference.

These are just a few of the many Green Pioneers pushing for a greener, more just future. They're the living embodiment of Dr. Maya Angelou's words: “You can't really know where you're going, until you know where you've been.” They're honoring the past by building a brighter tomorrow.

Through its various campaigns and community projects, the RTC continues toward one of its primary goals, “to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the transportation system in the valley.” This is achieved by staying well-informed on current and upcoming legislative policy changes, public affairs, local and small business concerns and programs, local workforce development efforts, and local/legislative policies affecting the local community, with focus on Black communities.

Happy Black History Month!
