Ready to embark on an adventure? Today, we're diving into the world of accessible public transit, as we learn how to ride the bus using a wheelchair or other mobility device. Mobility devices include a wide range of equipment, including wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, and any gadget that helps us all get around. It's all about making sure everyone has equal access to transportation!

Whether you're a seasoned rider or a first-time explorer, check out these tips for a smooth ride!

• Tip #1: Get to know your ride. Every RTC bus is equipped with either ramps or lifts, providing easy access on board. Go to the front entrance of your vehicle and give a friendly heads-up to the driver, and you'll be on the move in no time.
• Tip #2: Be aware. If a ramp motor is not working, operators must manually deploy the ramp.
• Tip #3: VIP seating. Position your wheelchair or device anywhere in the designated securement area on the vehicle.
• Tip #4: Enough space? The bus driver will inform you if all securement locations in the bus are in use.
• Tip #5: Full bus? If your wheelchair/mobility device cannot be boarded and the next bus will not arrive for more than one hour, the driver will notify you that alternate transportation will be requested to pick you up.
• Tip #6: Getting out of the bus. Drivers will announce specific stops when requested, transfer points with other transit routes, other major intersections and destination points, and intervals along a route with sufficient space for individuals with visual impairments or other disabilities to be oriented to their location.
