ACCESS 2050: Regional Transportation Plan
Southern Nevada is currently home to more than 2.3 million residents, and the region will surpass 3 million residents by 2050. Despite the recent economic downturn, the forecasted rapid growth in population and tourism can strain the region’s transportation system and make travel for residents and visitors more difficult. The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is planning for the future by developing its ACCESS 2050: Regional Transportation Plan (RTP).

Get Involved
The RTC conducted a 30-day public comment period in November 2020 to learn about the community’s transportation priorities and receive feedback on the project list. The outreach resulted in 500 comments, with an overwhelming majority supporting the projects included in the plan.
The plan will:
- Identify the long-term transportation needs and goals for our region’s surface transportation system;
- Establish strategies to address the safety, congestion, multi-modal connectivity, and maintenance issues resulting from forecast increased population and employment growth in the region; and
- Identify the transportation projects, programs and services for implementation through 2050.
ACCESS 2050 will also build upon and advance the following plans: 1) the existing ACCESS 2040 plan adopted in 2017, and 2) the recently completed On Board Mobility Plan developed through a robust outreach process, collaboration with partner agencies and community stakeholders, and extensive public input.
Vision
The RTP offers the opportunity to inspire, innovate and implement an integrated, efficient regional transportation system in our community. The transportation system of Southern Nevada will enhance and balance our defining regional characteristics:
- Strong and vibrant economy;
- Diverse and welcoming quality of life; and
- Valuable natural and infrastructure resources.
The ACCESS 2050 vision came from a large number of sources, including the On Board Transportation Vision Survey, priorities expressed by the RTC’s Boards and Committees, federal and state planning requirements, current regional practices, and best practices from professional transportation planning.
ACCESS 2050 is the primary vehicle through which the RTC’s continuous, cooperative, and comprehensive planning process is implemented. Federal regulations require that the long-range planning document be updated every four years. The RTP is the RTC’s long-range transportation plan as required under Title 23, Part 450 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and demonstrates that projects included can meet air quality requirements.
