Nearly 100 attendees celebrated Women’s History Month at the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) – Nevada Chapter Luncheon sponsored by National Express.

The event featured keynote speaker Carolyn Flowers, the current InfraStrategies Managing Principal and former acting administrator for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Attendees had a front row seat to hear about her professional and personal journey from Los Angeles, CA, to Washington, DC – and finally to Southern Nevada, which she now calls home!

Being a woman and a minority gave Flowers a unique perspective that she has been able to use to her advantage. She encouraged attendees to continue learning and not to get in their own way if they don’t know something. She also stressed the importance of finding a mentor to help one’s growth and giving back by mentoring. “Have the confidence in yourself when people question your abilities,” shared Flowers.

Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, famous for being a feisty female and a politician of the people, kicked off the luncheon by scrapping prepared talking points and providing honest, transparent and humorous welcome remarks.

As the saying goes, “Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”
