Multiple events in and around the Las Vegas Strip, Thanksgiving holiday will impact traffic and transit travel

LAS VEGAS – The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) encourages commuters to plan ahead for extra travel time in anticipation of heavy traffic and delays, as well as transit detours and bus stop closures throughout November.

Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix Impacts

Due to the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix race Nov. 21-23, RTC urges commuters to limit travel in and around the Resort Corridor area to essential trips. Several transit routes will be detoured, and numerous bus stops will be closed. Detoured routes include:

The detoured routes have updated schedules to provide customers with reliability during F1 race week. Customers can access all stop closures and detoured route maps by visiting the RTC’s Alerts and Detours page at rtcsnv.com/detours.

Game Day Express

Due to construction and special events, the RTC encourages Game Day Express customers to catch earlier buses for those planning to use the service to attend the following games:

  • Nov. 16: UNLV vs. San Diego St.
  • Nov. 24: Las Vegas Raiders vs. Denver Broncos
  • Nov. 29: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Winnipeg Jets
  • Nov. 30: UNLV vs. UNR
  • Nov. 30: Vegas Golden Knights vs. Utah Hockey Club

Game Day Express service is available from six convenient locations around the valley for Raiders and Golden Knights games. Pick-up service to UNLV Football games is only available from the UNLV Transit Center. Riders should also be aware that Route 613 will follow a new temporary route for the UNLV home football games on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 30. More information is available at rtcsnv.com/gamedayexpress.

Thanksgiving Week Travel Forecast

Peak Travel Times

Residents and visitors traveling by car should prepare for longer trips, particularly during peak travel times. To avoid traffic congestion and delays, drivers should note that peak drive times on I-15 include southbound traffic to Southern California on Wednesday, Nov. 27, Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1. Commuters can visit seeingorangenv.com or sign up for traffic alerts on the RTC website to access the most up-to-date traffic information.

The RTC recommends traveling outside peak hours to beat the rush, and for those traveling throughout the city, transit is a convenient and stress-free option that eliminates the hassle of parking.

Transit Schedules

RTC buses will operate on a Sunday schedule for transit service valley-wide on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28, and on a Saturday schedule for transit service on Family Day, Friday, Nov. 29.

Transit routes valley-wide are available from early morning to late evening, including the Deuce on the Strip. Riders can plan trips and purchase passes through the agency’s free rideRTC app or tap to pay with a debit/credit card, smartphone wallet or smart watch.

Airport Access

For those flying over the holiday weekend, free parking is available at the Centennial Hills Transit Center or the South Strip Transit Terminal (SSTT), with direct access to Harry Reid International Airport’s Ground Level Zero at Terminal 1 via the Centennial Express (CX) or Route 109 Maryland Parkway.

Park and Ride Facilities

For holiday shoppers looking to eliminate the hassle of traffic and parking, the RTC offers complimentary park-and-ride facilities throughout the valley, providing convenient access to transit and carpooling options. Parking spots are on a first-come, first-served basis at all park-and-ride sites.

Real-Time Alerts for Motorists and Transit Riders
