The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) salutes our active and retired military members for their dedication to our nation. This coming Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11, we’re offering complimentary rides on our city buses for those who serve and have served our country.
These free rides are eligible on all 39 RTC transit routes from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Veterans Day. All you have to do is show the bus driver your military or veterans identification card when you board.
But do you know about all of the other services that the RTC provides for active and retired military members?
Veterans can ride transit for half off the full-price fare, all year round, with a veterans’ reduced fare ID card. To get an ID card, simply apply in person at the Bonneville Transit Center, 101 E. Bonneville Ave. Reduced-fare passes can be purchased on the rideRTC app, and paper passes may also be purchased at the Bonneville Transit Center and the RTC administration building, 600 S. Grand Central Parkway.
With this reduced-fare pass, veterans can use the many transit routes that stop right in front of hospitals and Veterans Affairs (VA) clinics for medical appointments. In fact, the Downtown and Veterans Medical Center Express (DVX) begins at the Bonneville Transit Center and ends at the Veterans Medical Center in North Las Vegas. Route 113 – Las Vegas Boulevard North takes passengers to the O’Callaghan Federal Center, and other routes like the 102, 106, 203 and more serve various VA primary care clinics around town.
The RTC also provides door-to-door service to medical appointments for veterans and their dependents through the Veterans Medical Transportation Network (VMTN). Call (702) 678-VETS (8387) to see if you qualify. Once a registered VMTN client, you can schedule service to and from your home to a VA clinic, your primary care physician or the Veterans Medical Center.
As a sign of our appreciation, we also added American flags to all of our paratransit vehicles just last week.
Thank you for your service to our great nation, and happy Veterans Day!
