LAS VEGAS – Love is in the air! The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is showing love and appreciation in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day to recognize loyal transit riders. Bus ridership increased last year by more than five percent on 14 residential RTC routes, which equals more than one-third of the RTC’s transit system.

The RTC is boasting increased ridership on its residential routes despite recent trends of declining ridership in other parts of the country. Recent data from the American Public Transportation Association shows a 0.7 percent decline in bus ridership nationally. In contrast, residential ridership for the RTC increased 3.1 percent, totaling 54.5 million trips taken in 2019.

“Our riders are the foundation of our success,” said MJ Maynard, RTC CEO. “That’s why I am excited to express our appreciation for our longstanding customers and new riders who either just moved to our community or are trying transit for the first time. We appreciate your confidence in our service, and welcome your feedback on your riding experience and the future of transportation in Southern Nevada.”

To celebrate the uptick in ridership and the patronage of its customers, the RTC is hosting Transit Rider Appreciation events, which will occur from Monday, Feb. 10 – Thursday, Feb. 13, at popular transit centers and bus shelters. The events will offer giveaways and prizes from new local business partnerships such as:

More details about specific Transit Rider Appreciation events and offers are online.

Transit riders will also have the opportunity at each appreciation event to ask questions, give feedback, and participate in a survey on the draft plan of On Board, the agency’s community-based transportation planning initiative. Riders who participate will be entered to win a variety of prizes, including the grand prize of Vegas Golden Knights tickets.  To take the On Board survey online, visit OnBoardSNV.com.
