RTC Bike Share is marking a significant milestone during its eighth anniversary and Hispanic Heritage Month by expanding into East Las Vegas. The expansion, which includes 37 new electric bikes and 24 docks at six new stations, aims to enhance transportation access for the local community.
The expansion was made possible by $142,500 in federal funding secured by U.S. Congresswoman Dina Titus. Joining her at the event were RTC Deputy CEO David Swallow, Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition President Jennifer Grube, and local artist Melody Gallegos, who highlighted the impact of the new bike share stations on East Las Vegas residents, particularly those who rely on public transit.
The new stations include locations at the LGBTQIA+ Community Center, Bruce and Ogden, Fremont and Bruce, Charleston and Burnham, the Urban Lofts, and the East Las Vegas Community Center, which features vibrant dock art by Gallegos, who was inspired by the Folklorico dance.
Since its launch in 2016, RTC Bike Share has made a positive environmental impact by reducing vehicle emissions and encouraging active transportation, with riders burning over 45 million calories and preventing over one million pounds of CO2 emissions.
