Charleston Boulevard Transit Corridor Alternatives Analysis

Get ready, Las Vegas! The Metropolitan Planning Organization department is gearing up for a new project aimed at improving transportation on Charleston Boulevard. This busy corridor stretches from Summerlin at Pavilion Center Drive to the eastern edge of Las Vegas at Nellis Boulevard.

Charleston Boulevard bustles with activity as drivers, bus riders, pedestrians, and cyclists all use it to get to work and essential services. The current transit route (206) covers about 17 miles and is the third busiest in our region.

The main goal of this project is to improve reliability and flow along the corridor for all users. We will also be examining the potential introduction of different transportation system investments in the long-term such as light rail and bus rapid transit in this corridor. For near-term solutions, we’ll be looking into methods of improving bus operations, deploying advanced traffic signal systems, and other new transportation technologies.

Ultimately, we want to make traveling along Charleston Boulevard easier and faster for everyone in our community.

Nellis Air Force Base (AFB) Transportation Study

The RTC will be kicking off the second round of public engagement soon for the Nellis Air Force Base (AFB) Transportation Study. The goal of the study is to make travel easier, safer, and more efficient around Nellis AFB and the surrounding areas, especially for people who walk, bike, and take transit.

In the second phase, we want to share what we've learned from the first phase of conversations and findings from nearly 1,000 survey results from people of different backgrounds that live in the study area. We'll be sharing this information on our RTC Blog and social media. Plus, we'll be asking for more feedback through a second survey.

Transforming Boulder Highway: A Vision for a Thriving Community – Boulder Highway Transit-Oriented Development (TOD)

The Boulder Highway Corridor in Henderson is on the brink of an exciting transformation. Recognized as a priority area for both the City of Henderson and the RTC, this stretch has long awaited revitalization, both in terms of community development and transportation upgrades. The developed plan is comprehensive, as it aims not only to improve transit but also to enhance safety, mobility, and accessibility for transit users, pedestrians, individuals in wheelchairs, and cyclists.

Imagine a center-running bus rapid transit line on Boulder Highway. This would make transit faster, more reliable, and comfortable. Other improvements such as dedicated bike lanes, wider sidewalks, better lighting, landscaping, and more will improve the aesthetics and atmosphere of the corridor.

But it's not just about transit. This project opens doors for redevelopment, affordable housing, and vibrant community spaces. With the groundwork laid and construction underway, the future of Boulder Highway is bright. Let's embrace this opportunity for progress and create a corridor that truly serves its community by connecting people to jobs, food, entertainment, and recreation while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
