On the Road: Boulder City

This week, On the Road is visiting Boulder City, which recently invested $250,000 on a significant bicycle path paving project.

Construction on the 1.5-mile bicycle path next to the Hemenway Channel (between the River Mountain trail parking lot to Pacifica Way along Boulder City Parkway/US93) was a joint funding effort through the Regional Flood Control District, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC).

“NDOT funded the design of the maintenance access/multiuse path, the Flood Control District funded design and construction of the wash improvements and the 12-foot wide maintenance access road, and RTC provided the funding to pave the access road to make it a multiuse path along the Hemenway Channel,” said Jim Keane, P.E., City Engineer. “The goal of the multiuse path is to increase safety by encouraging pedestrians and cyclists to use the path instead of the flood channel or Boulder City Parkway/US93. This coordination and cooperation between the three partner agencies and the City of Boulder City has provided a significant safety improvement to the River Mountains Loop Trail through this section of Boulder City and provides great views of Lake Mead. We appreciate the opportunities that these great agencies provide for our residents and the thousands of visitors who use the roads and bike paths in Boulder City.”

The Boulder City section of the River Mountain Loop Trail is a great escape if you are looking for an adventure outside of the busy city. The quick 1.5-mile trail will provide great views and a look into some wildlife. Why stop at the trail? Make it a day out and support local restaurants in the Boulder City area. Boulder City offers a place for everyone looking to refuel after hitting the trail. Stop by the Soda At The Nest or Family Fox Bakery for a pastry or drink! If you are looking for a lunch spot after a long hike or bike ride, check out Boulder Pit Stop or Vinny’s Pizzeria. If that wasn’t already really tempting, try a craft beer and great grub at The Tap.
