January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Did you know, traffickers rely on the transportation industry in every phase of human trafficking: for recruitment, moving and controlling victims, and for delivering victims to buyers. Unfortunately, human trafficking prevails in Nevada. The National Human Trafficking Hotline reported 201 cases involving 296 victims in 2021.
This year marks three years since the RTC launched the “Combatting Human Trafficking” campaign in partnership with FirstMed. Thanks to the funding received for this campaign, our front-line employees, transit operators and security officers received training to help identify human trafficking victims. In an effort to continue raising awareness on this modern-day slavery, we have compiled a list of resources available on transit if you or someone you know is in need of help.
