LAS VEGAS – Following the success of an electric bike pilot in March, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is permanently adding 20 electric pedal-assist bikes to the existing RTC Bike Share program in downtown Las Vegas.

Beginning today, RTC Bike Share will offer bright green electric bikes using a pedal-assist motor that allows riders to overcome elevation obstacles and make commutes quicker with speeds up to 17 miles per hour.

“Adding electric bikes was a clear next step to expanding our successful bike share program and responding to customer demands,” said RTC CEO Tina Quigley who noted that riders preferred using the RTC electric bikes eight times more than classic bikes during the March trial run.

The electric bikes can be rented at any of the 21 bike share locations in downtown Las Vegas. Users can locate them in advance on the RTC Bike Share website map or the BCycle app with a lightning bolt symbol indicator appearing at each station.

The electric bikes cost an additional $1 per checkout with the purchase of any of the three pass options: 24-hour pass for $5 or 3-day pass for $10 at any bike share kiosk. Monthly passes are also available online for $15.

Launched in 2016, RTC Bike Share is an easy way for residents and tourists to ride to and from the many attractions, restaurants, bars and shops the downtown area has to offer. Riders can also easily connect to the numerous RTC transit lines through the Bonneville Transit Center in downtown Las Vegas.

The City of Las Vegas funded the addition of the 20 electric bikes. For more information on RTC Bike Share, visit bikeshare.rtcsnv.com and download the BCycle app in the App Store and Google Play. Customers can also plan their multimodal trip that includes RTC Bike Share through the rideRTC app.
