The start of a new year is always a good time to set new goals, and for many people one of those goals is to get in shape. A great way to do that is cycling! Here are some tips to help you whether you’re just getting started on your cycling journey or you’re an avid cyclist.

1. Make your goals attainable. Start by setting mileage goals for the week, month, and year. As you start to increase your weekly and monthly mileage goals, begin to increase your speed; pedaling harder for longer periods of time on your trips. Cycling is great cardio and helps build muscles and maintain bone strength.

2. Incorporate new routes, trails, and terrain (don’t avoid those hills). To keep your ride fun, challenging and to increase stamina – try new landscapes. While cycling, keep track of your workout and progress. Many wearable digital devices, such as smart watches, monitor vitals and mileage. Keep a log of your journey to make sure you’re on track for achieving your cycling fitness goals.

3. Bike with family and friends or join a local cycling community. It’s a great way to meet other cyclists and having others along for the ride makes it more fun, keeps you motivated, and  increases your chances of sticking to your fitness goals.
