Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with month-long activities and events

We officially kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month yesterday at North Las Vegas’ Mexican Independence Event, and we are continuing the month-long celebration with much more! We are dedicating a new story each week on our blog to highlight the contributions, achievements, culture and food of the Hispanic community in Southern Nevada. Check out all of the festivities and activities taking place this month:

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 15 – SATURDAY, OCT. 30
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library has a variety of free events for all ages, including arts and crafts lessons, art gallery showings, concerts, games and much more! Click HERE to see the full list.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 15 – FRIDAY, OCT. 15
Take the family to learn and celebrate Hispanic American Heritage Month at the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum. Families can discover new artwork techniques, learn traditional dances, & more! For more information click HERE

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, SEPT. 16 – 17
Las Vegas Ballpark is hosting the 2021 Mexican Baseball Fiesta on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 16-17. A spring training for teams in the Mexican Winter Leagues, this fun, colorful and exciting event features two of the top teams in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico – Los Naranjeros de Hermosillo and Águilas de Mexicali. Individual game tickets are priced at $11 (general admission/berm); $17 (outfield box); $22 (infield box); $30 (home plate box) and $40 (club level).

FRIDAY, SEPT. 17
City of North Las Vegas is airing “Coco,” a movie inspired by the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, at Hartke Park, 1900 E. Tonopah Ave. Family activities start at 6 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Coolers, picnic baskets, chairs and blankets are welcome. For more information, call (702) 633-2418.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 18
Enjoy live performances at the Hispanic Heritage Month Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Gary Reese Freedom Park, 850 N. Mojave Road, by Ballet Folklorico Mexico Vivo, La Sonora Dinamita, Mariachi Nuestras Raíces, & much more! Free health services, DJ music, and kids’ activities. Food trucks on site will be selling Mexican & Latin American specialties. For more information, call 702-596-9912.

TUESDAYS, SEPT. 21, 28 & OCT. 5, 12, 19
Kids ages 9-12 can take a Road Trip Through Latin America class from 5:45-6:45 p.m. at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. Participants will learn about the Latino culture by cooking delicious food to creating a mask of silver.
