Have you noticed those full-color LED signs on I-15 and U.S. 95 during your commute? You may have seen green arrows, yellow X’s, red X’s or most often, nothing at all. What does it all mean to you?
The Project Neon Active Traffic Management (ATM) system provides the Southern Nevada Traffic Management Center (TMC) with the ability to manage traffic congestion based on current and predicted conditions. Like the Southern Nevada TMC, the ATM system is a joint collaboration among the RTC, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) and Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP).
A total of 42 signs display real-time information to motorists about incidents and lane restrictions ahead, allowing enough advance warning for vehicles to prepare, easing potential congestion and incidents. How does that affect your commute? These ATM signs can:
- Improve trip reliability and traffic movement
- Reduce travel time and provide more consistent, accurate travel time through the corridor
- Increase safety with the potential to reduce the number and severity of crashes

Lane openings and closures
Variable speed limits
With crashes or congestion ahead, the speed limit may change to reduce the chances of another incident due to different traffic speeds and to keep first responders safe while they attend to an incident.
