This year marks the 40th Anniversary celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We are continuing the tradition and commemorating the tremendous impact Dr. King had on our lives with week-long events followed by the annual MLK Day Parade.
The theme of our float this year is “When Black Women Lead.” We hope you’ll join us to see how we bring that theme to life on Monday, January 17 at 10 a.m. in downtown Las Vegas!
The Grand Marshal for the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual. Watch the short video below to meet this year’s Grand Marshals.
Grand Marshals are selected by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. committee for their contributions to the community. “Grand Marshals are honored and featured during King Week annually. They serve as the face of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation in Las Vegas for that year,” said Former Assemblyman and MLK parade founder Wendell P. Williams.
Williams spearheaded a movement to get a federal holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He also pushed to get the annual parade that has been the staple of downtown Las Vegas for forty years. We hope to see you there!
