Signs of HOPE (Healing, Options, Prevention and Education), a nonprofit dedicated to offering hope, help and healing to those affected by sexual violence and exploitation, hosted its annual fundraising event on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at TAO Nightclub inside The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. M.J. Maynard, CEO of the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada, was honored with the President’s Distinguished Service Award.

Maynard was chosen for the honor given the RTC’s ongoing support of victims of sexual assault and human trafficking and the Signs of HOPE (SOH) mission. This includes free and low-cost transit passes that the RTC provides to SOH clients to get to work, counseling and school, as well as low-cost bus and transit shelter ads that allow SOH to promote its 24-hour hotline numbers. Additionally, Maynard and the RTC team recently met with SOH to problem-solve transportation for wheelchair-bound clients.

According to Kim Small, CEO of Signs of HOPE, M.J. and her RTC team have always gone above and beyond to ensure SOH clients have their transportation needs met, a real difference maker when they are already dealing with so much trauma in their lives. “Plus, the RTC understands the need to help us get out the word about our 24-hour crisis hotlines,” said Small. “Having low-cost signage on buses and at shelters allows us to reach more individuals who need our help the most.”

The public was invited to attend and support the event which included complimentary appetizers and cocktails, plus entertainment. Event sponsors included United Healthcare, Caesars Entertainment and Tao Group Hospitality Cares. Community partners included News 3, RTC and Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.  All proceeds support the mission of Signs of HOPE to provide help, hope and healing to those affected by sexual violence.
