December 8, 2019 – Proposed Service Change

To better serve our transit customers, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is proposing changes to its fixed route system that would begin Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019.

Proposed Route Changes

Routes 100-122 | Route 201 – 219 | Express Routes

Systemwide Changes:

  • Operate a Saturday schedule instead of a weekday schedule on New Year’s Eve 2019.

Route 101 – Rainbow:

  • Eliminate 5:30 a.m. northbound Saturday / 5:51 a.m. northbound Sunday trips.
    • Surrounding trip times –those currently scheduled just before and just after these trips –may be adjusted slightly, to smoothen frequencies and ensure no more than one hour between scheduled trips.
  • Establish Spring Mtn. stop as a timepoint, which will provide better estimates of trip times to customers at this and other nearby stops.

Route 102 – Jones:

  • No changes

Route 103 – Decatur:

  • No changes

Route 104 – Valley View / Arville:

  • Possible adjustments to when trips begin.  This would also shift service times at all other bus stops along the route.  The amount of time between trips will remain about the same.
  • Start first northbound weekday trip, which currently begins at SSTT at 4:19 a.m., at Russell and Valley View instead.

Route 105 – Martin Luther King:

  • On Saturday and Sunday mornings, reduce the number of southbound trips starting between 4:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. by one.
  • Add one additional northbound trip during the 11 p.m. hour, every day. This will result in northbound 30 minute frequency continuing one hour later in the evening (currently transitions to once an hour frequency at approx. 11 p.m.).
  • Adjustments to when trips begin throughout the day. This would also shift scheduled service times at all other bus stops along the route.  The amount of time between trips will remain about the same.

Route 106 – Rancho / Centennial Hills

  • Eliminate 5:28 a.m. northbound Sundays 106B trip.
  • Start current 5:53 a.m. southbound Sundays trip at Lone Mtn. instead of Ann and Drexel (Tenaya).

  • Adjustments to when trips begin may take place during certain hours. This would also shift service times at all other bus stops along the route.  The amount of time between trips will remain about the same.

Route 115 – Nellis / Stephanie

  • Delay increasing from 30 minute to 20 minute frequency approximately one hour longer on Saturday and Sunday mornings. This will result in lower frequency on Saturday mornings during the 5 a.m. hour southbound / 6 a.m. hour northbound and on Sundays during the 8 a.m. hour southbound / 9 a.m. hour northbound.
  • Eliminate the 5:52 a.m. northbound Sundays trip.

  • No changes.

SDX –Strip & Downtown Express

  • No changes.

BHX –Boulder Hwy Express

  • Restructure route south of Lake Mead Pkwy, in conjunction with significant changes to Route 217 and HDX. This restructuring will nearly triple the amount of transit service to the Nevada State College (NSC) area and provide faster service for some customers by branching the route into BHX-A and BHX-B.  The current BHX routing in Henderson will become the BHX-A.  The new BHX-B will bypass Water Street and the CSN Henderson area, instead of remaining on Boulder Hwy to NSC.  Exact routing as follows:
    • Southbound BHX-B: from southbound Boulder Hwy, remain on Boulder Hwy (do not turn onto Lake Mead Pkwy or Horizon), southwest on Wagonwheel (becomes Nevada State Drive), southwest on Compassion Drive, east on Paradise Hills, and layover at the existing HDX bus stop alongside the NSC Liberal Arts and Sciences building.
    • Northbound BHX-B: from the layover at the existing HDX bus stop on Paradise Hills alongside the NSC Liberal Arts and Sciences building, continue east on Paradise Hills, northwest on Dawson, north on Conestoga, northeast on Nevada State Drive (becomes Wagonwheel), northwest on Boulder Hwy (do not turn onto Horizon or Basic), and resume current routing north of Lake Mead Pkwy.
    • North of Lake Mead Pkwy, the BHX-A and BHX-B will operate identically.
    • The BHX-A will continue operating a slightly shortened route during overnight and Sunday hours, when there is no service to CSN Henderson.
    • BHX-B will not operate during overnight hours, when the BHX currently operates once an hour.
  • Routing modification to shift onto Carson instead of Ogden or Fremont in the Downtown area. This will improve the speed and reliability of BHX trips through Downtown, and save time for customers traveling to/from the BTC.  Exact routing as follows:
    • Southbound BHX: from BTC, exit east on Bonneville, north on Casino Center, east on Carson, north on 13th, east on Fremont Street, and resume current routing. From BTC to Fremont @ 15th, BHX bus stops will be located near the following intersections:
      • Carson @ Casino Center
      • Carson @ 4th / Las Vegas Blvd.
      • Carson @ 8th
      • 13th @ Carson
    • Northbound BHX: from westbound Fremont Street, travel south on Maryland Pkwy, west on Carson, south on Casino Center, and resume current routing into the BTC. From Fremont @ 15th to BTC, BHX bus stops will be located near the following intersections:
      • Maryland @ Fremont / Carson
      • Carson @ 8th
      • Carson @ Las Vegas Blvd.
      • Carson @ 3rd
    • Route retiming and adjustments to when trips will begin. This will improve timeliness and reliability.

  • Start the 5:20 a.m. and 5:55 a.m. eastbound weekday trips at Fort Apache instead of Downtown Summerlin.

CX –Centennial Express

  • Route timing and adjustments to when trips will begin associated with recently completed freeway construction projects.
  • Terminate the last southbound trip of the evening, every night (11:05 p.m. weekdays / 11:00 p.m. weekends and holidays) at BTC instead of McCarran Airport.
    • Customers using the CX south of BTC on this trip will need to transfer to/use other routes.
    • Portion of route from Centennial Hills Transit Center to BTC will not be affected.

WAX –Westcliff Airport Express

  • On weekday mornings, reduce the number of northbound / westbound trips starting before 8 a.m. from three to two. This will result in hourly frequency northbound / westbound before 8 a.m.
  • Minor route timing and adjustments to when trips will begin associated with recently completed freeway construction projects.

HDX –Henderson & Downtown Express

  • Restructure route between Fiesta Henderson and Nevada State College (NSC), in conjunction with significant changes to Routes 217 and BHX. This restructuring will introduce HDX service to CSN Henderson and connect it directly to NSC; make service faster for some HDX customers; remove the HDX from Boulder Hwy; and improve timeliness and reliability.  Exact routing as follows:
    • Southeastbound: from eastbound Lake Mead Pkwy, travel south on Water Street, south/west on Pacific, east on Horizon, south on College Drive, enter I-11/US-95/93 south/east, exit Wagonwheel / Nevada State Drive, south/west on Nevada State Drive, and resume current routing to NSC and Boulder City.
    • Northwestbound: from eastbound Paradise Hills alongside NSC, continue east on Paradise Hills, northwest on Dawson, north on Conestoga, northeast on Nevada State Drive, enter I-11/US-95/93 north/west, exit College Drive, north on College Drive, west on Horizon, north on Pacific, north/west on Water Street, west on Lake Mead Pkwy, enter I-515/US-95/93 northbound, and resume current routing.
      • Northwestbound HDX trips would no longer turn onto Fiesta Henderson Blvd, but would instead now serve the current Route 217 bus stop on westbound Lake Mead Pkwy at Eastgate, across the street from Fiesta Henderson. This will make service faster for most customers.
    • Bus stops along Boulder Hwy would now be served by new BHX-B and/or BHX-A.
  • Eliminate the 7:31 a.m. southeastbound weekdays trip. Morning frequency will now be consistently once an hour.
  • Eliminate the 4:29 a.m. / 4:35 a.m. northwestbound weekends and holidays trip. The first northwestbound trip of the morning on weekends and holidays will now begin at approximately 5:30 a.m.
  • Modify the last two northwestbound trips of the evening each night to bypass the NSC area and Nevada State Drive, remaining on I-11 from Railroad Pass directly to College Drive, before terminating at Horizon and Skyline (just before Pacific).
    • BHX-B will now be available and still operating at this time of night to serve NSC area.
  • Route retiming and adjustments to when trips will begin.

DVX –Downtown & Veteran’s Medical Center Express

  • Adjustments to when trips will begin. This would also shift scheduled service times at all other bus stops along the route.  The amount of time between trips will remain about the same.
  • Modify northbound trips that currently end on southbound Losee @ Ann after serving the V.A. Facility, to instead continue as southbound trips as far as Craig @ Losee.
