The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) began the Citizens Area Transit (CAT) bus system in December 1992. In 2004, the RTC added the first Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) line to its transit system. Then in October 2005 the Deuce double-deck bus service began running on the famous Las Vegas Strip and in 2010 the RTC will launch the ACE Rapid Transit system. For more information, visit our ACE Rapid Transit System information page.

The entire RTC transit system consists of 36 routes served by 360 vehicles carrying more than 190,000 passengers per weekday in the greater Las Vegas Valley. To learn more about how the RTC serves our community take a look at our Facts & Figures page. Service enhancements are completed regularly and new transit guides are issued twice each year.

Reliability & Efficiency
How long does it take you to plan a trip? Imagine planning 1.4 million trips a year! The RTC's Transit Department does just that with amazing results.  As our roads become more congested and the price of gas continues to break records, riders have even more reasons to take transit as an alternative to driving alone when they consider a recent report on our on-time performance.

Reliability is an important component for both transit riders and the RTC and our on-time record happens to be one of the best in the country. In 2007, the RTC’s average on-time performance was 95.9-percent. On-time performance is based on the RTC's measurements of nearly 6.5-million time point departures throughout the Las Vegas Valley. By responding to the data gathered from these time points, in the last 12 months we’ve been able to improve reliability by twenty-five percent.

Efficiency is crucial to keeping the wheels moving throughout our growing system of transit. A new 2006 report ranks the RTC’s transit service above all others in the nation. According to the National Transit Database, a clearinghouse for transit statistical information within the Federal Transit Administration, the RTC’s operating expense is only $1.77 per passenger trip, 30 cents less than the number two city ranked on that list.

If you can’t find the information you’re looking for within this Web site, call RTC Customer Service at (702) 228-RIDE (7433), email us, or pick up a Transit Guide on any one of our fixed route vehicles, at the South Strip Transfer Terminal (SSTT), Downtown Transportation Center (DTC), RTC Administration Building or vendors throughout the Valley. This informative booklet provides all the information you’ll need to plan your transit trip.

Beginning June 29, 2009 the RTC Administrative Building hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The RTC Administrative Building will not be open on Fridays.
